The association of community organizations, which is responsible for the operation, said that it had received more than 500 inquiries in the morning. It is expected that an interview will be arranged for the applicants before mid-December. Depending on their housing environment and urgency, they will be admitted as soon as the end of January next year. The organization also pointed out that those who failed to apply will be referred to other transitional housing projects according to the situation and try their best to provide assist.
In addition to advocating a long-term housing policy and making good use of vacant community land and increasing the supply of transitional housing, the Hong Kong Association of Community Organizations (HKSO) believes that affordable rents and a stable living environment are the best ways to help families waiting for public housing in harsh environments to reduce poverty and relieve economic stress. The Yinghua Street Project aims to help grass-roots families living in harsh environments waiting for public housing, to improve the current living environment, and to support the different social service needs of tenants through the SSA Regional Service Centre to create community support and mutual assistance network. The SWC hopes that the project will implement the indicators of suitable housing and community-based social services, and advocate that transitional social housing will become a permanent policy in the long run and a policy for the protection of housing rights at the grass-roots level.
